Commercial photo printing charges per sheet, not per photo, and a single 4 × 6 print of a phone picture wastes most of the paper. Packing several onto one sheet and cutting them apart is what photo shops have always done — this is that, without the trip.
Margins and gutters are set in millimetres rather than pixels so the result is predictable on paper: a 5 mm gutter is a 5 mm gutter, which is the difference between a clean cut and slicing the edge off someone’s face.
Frequently asked questions
What size should the gutter be?
5 mm is comfortable if you are cutting with scissors, 2–3 mm if you have a trimmer or a guillotine. Below 2 mm the cut lines start to merge on a domestic printer, and you lose more to trimming than you save on paper.
Will my printer cut the edges off?
Most domestic printers cannot print within 4–5 mm of the paper edge, so the tool keeps a margin clear of that by default and lets you raise it. Anything inside the margin may be clipped by the printer, not by the file.
Can I mix photo sizes on one sheet?
Yes. Set the grid, then choose a photo size per item; each is placed at its own size rather than being forced into a uniform cell.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They are decoded and composed in your browser. This matters more here than in most tools — family photos are exactly the kind of file people are right not to want on a stranger’s server.
